Vasarely Gaming 1953
by Diorama Type Partners
Initiated in 2017, the theme for our second issue was based on a quote from painter Victor Vasarely, which invited us to question the new forms that the reading experience could take. This is why, exclusively for Revue Diorama No.2, an interactive extension was added to the print and web in the form of a video game. Linked to the book, this virtual diorama representing a city of words reshapes Vasarely’s sentence into a real situation of gameplay: “Future is emerging with the new geometric city, polychrome and solar. Plastic art will be kinetic, multidimensional and communal, abstract for sure and close to the science.”
Having as basic principle in our video game to be able to stand up, Mesh typeface populates the world of Vasarely with its letters and can be read as a 3D type specimen all throughout the virtual world of Diorama No.2. We can see the quote evolving in Mesh under many seams: gigantic, luminous, material to construct buildings, ceilings, etc. It is by using the same vanishing point to shoot that we obtain the .otf version of 2D Mesh.
In 2017, our idea was to do a “3D series”, original concept of a digital-magazine, available online on our e-shop www.revue-diorama.com. Establishing a real dialogue between the two supports, it is through updates — like episodes of a tv-show — that the contributions from the publication are interpreted into a 3D object and integrated into the game. An evolutionary work giving rise to various digital ambulation events. We will try to make it available as soon as possible, free to download, on our e-shop :)
